Creating a Strong Password

The stronger your password, the more protected your computer will be from hackers and malicious software. After all, passwords are the first line of defense against unauthorized access to your computer and personal information. Protect yourself with strong password and it will reduce your visits to your computer technician for computer repairs and other invasion related IT support and services. It is important to make sure that you have strong passwords for all the accounts on your computer.
  1. Use several passwords. Make sure you use different passwords for different accounts. Keep passwords for social media and entertainment accounts different from your passwords for business, credit cards, banking, etc.
  2. Create passwords that doesn’t contain your username, real name or company name or anything that ties to your personal identity.
  3. When it is time to change your password, make sure that the new one is significantly different that the previous password.
  4. It is best to change passwords every 90 days.
  5. Include characters like
  • Uppercase letters
  • Lowercase Letters
  • Numbers
  • Symbols
Even though you are using all of the above criteria for creating your password, it can be weak if it’s something simply like: Yes2Love. A stronger alternative is Y3s2L0v3, because it replaces the complete word with numbers and still has upper and lower case letter without being obvious.
